Arsenal 12-13 Nike Away Soccer Jersey

May 15th, 2012 No comments

Noted website Football Shirt Culture has revealed a first look at what appears to be Arsenal’s away soccer jersey for the 2012-13 season.

While there has yet to be an official unveiling by the north London club, the website—one of the most popular around the world when it comes to soccer jerseys—is known as a reliable source for breaking news about jerseys.

Should this one turn out to be true, Arsenal fans will likely have reason to feel dismay.

The new home jersey—which will be used for the next two seasons—drew a somewhat tepid response, but it will likely look like a work of art compared to this away uniform.

Once fans get past wondering whether the main color is purple or blue (it’s rather difficult to tell from the picture), there comes the black stripes—and there are a lot of them. Something about the design hearkens an image of the Cheshire cat, of Alice and Wonderland fame.

Nike has been making an effort to explain the reasoning behind its choices for this season’s crop of jerseys. As Sam Wallace wrote in The Independent, its marketing rhetoric has kicked into overdrive.

It should be interesting to see what it says about this Arsenal edition.

We showed you some leaked pictures last month, but Nike now officially unveiled the new USA 12/13 away soccer jersey which will be available soon.

There is a new confidence about the U.S.; they are now recognized as a dynamic soccer nation who are contenders on the world stage, and the United States Men’s National Team new away kit reflects the iconic collegiate look so prevalent in American fashion and culture.

The design of the away jersey is directly inspired by the popular varsity jackets worn in high school and college with its blue body and white sleeves, while a crossover collar features red, white and blue stripes.

In line with Nike’s commitment to superior athletic performance and lower environmental impact, the fabric of the new kit’s shorts is made with 100% recycled polyester, while the fabric of the soccer jerseys is made with at least 96% recycled polyester.  Each kit is made using an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles.

The fabric is also up to 23% lighter than the version four years ago. Embedded with Nike Dri-FIT technology, the kits help to regulate players temperatures on the pitch by removing sweat from the body to keep them dry and cool faster than ever before.
